Neighbors rattled after man shot in head in his driveway

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis man is recovering at the MED after a man shot him in the head and stole his car early Friday morning.

It all happened in the victim's driveway.  Many neighbors said they are rattled.

"It's so sad," said neighbor Veronica Quezada.  "I don't like it because I don't feel safe."

The incident happened on Orangewood Road near Highway 64 around 1:30 a.m. Friday.  Police said a man and woman were leaving the house when a man with a gun ordered the woman back into the house and demanded the keys from the man.

The suspect then shot the man in the head.

"I said to my husband, 'something's happening,'" said Quezada.

The woman was not hurt, but the suspect took off in the victim's car and has not been seen since.  The car is a 1992 black Camaro with Tennessee tags 447VVX.

Quezada said this does not come as a total surprise.

"Sometimes we hear shots, but far away," she said.

She said it makes her uncomfortable to know this happened in her neighborhood.

"Oh, it's not good for me, really," said Quezada.  "I have teenagers and sometimes I'm looking for them, looking to see what they're doing because I'm scared for them."

The victim's condition was upgraded from critical to non-critical condition Saturday.  Police are not releasing his name.
