MLGW activates Emergency Reconnection Program

(WMC-TV) - MLGW activated its Emergency Reconnection Program Thursday.

The program will help people who may not have power because they are behind on their bills.

People in that situation can have their power restored by going to any of the five MLGW payment centers and paying $275, no matter how much they currently owe the utility.

The power will be turned back on the same day the payment is made.  MLGW will then work with customers to put them on a deferred payment plan for the next five months.

"The best thing is to see that those who are in financial troubles, who need services reconnected regardless of their financial situation," said Memphis Mayor A C Wharton.  "We need to hit this head on, and that's precisely what this has to do."

MLGW President Jerry Collins announced Thursday the utility is also extending hours of their payment centers.  They will now be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays for the next several weeks.

You cannot sign up for the Emergency Reconnection Program online.  If you cannot make it to one of the five MLGW payment centers, call 544-MLGW for help.
