(WMC-TV) - Police have filed charges against a man accused of inappropriately touching a child at a Collierville gym.

Anthony Webster, 27, an employee at Lifetime Fitness in Collierville, has been charged with one count of aggravated sexual battery.

Authorities said the incident happened last June in the daycare area of the gym.

Webster turned himself in to police after charges were filed.

Calling the allegations "extremely disturbing," Lifetime spokesperson Jason Thunstrom responded to the charges.

"Upon being notified, we launched an internal investigation which continues at this point in time and of course we continue to work with authorities with any needs they have as they conduct their own investigation," Thunstrom said.

Like every other Lifetime employee, Webster completed a background check when hired.

"I can confirm that the individual is no longer with our company, but besides from that I can't confirm any other details with regret to his employment," Thunstrom said.

Lisa Carlson, a member of the gym was surprised - but not shocked - by the charges.

"I have never seen anything inappropriate in the child care area," she said. "It's usually very busy in there, so I can't imagine exactly where that would have taken place."

Collierville police are still investigating the incident.
