(WMC-TV) - Memphis' police director says there's a new lead detective in the year-old investigation into the fatal shooting of former NBA player and local favorite son Lorenzen Wright.

Director Toney Armstrong said Tuesday that police are a long way from finding Wright's killer or killers.

"I just can't believe there's not someone out there that knows something," Armstrong said.

Armstrong says the case has been switched to a different lead detective - or "case coordinator" - in order to get fresh eyes on the case.

"Until we have somebody under arrest, somebody we officially charge, we haven't and won't rule anybody out," he said.

The 34-year-old Wright had been missing for 10 days when his body was found last July 28. No arrests have been made in the year since the slaying.

"I can't sit here and tell you it was a professional hit and on the other side can't sit here and tell you it wasn't - or was random," Armstrong said.

Armstrong says Crime Stoppers has received just 28 tips. He says he plans to ask city officials to raise the reward for information leading to an arrest from $6,000.
