(WMC-TV) - Shelby County Sheriff's Office Investigators want to speak with the woman whose photo was found at the bottom of a wooden trunk that contained a murdered man's body.

"We still don't have any leads about what happened, how it happened, or the circumstances surrounding it," spokesperson Chip Washington said Tuesday.

Bizarre new developments in the case came a week and a half after the body-filled trunk was found in a ravine by an AT&T employee doing work along Walsh Road in the Shelby Forest area.

The worker first detected a foul odor nearby residents noticed as well.

"I know my wife was first to pick it up," said Phil Long, who lives nearby. 'She's an RN nurse and she picked it up that something was dead here close by."

The dead man was identified days later as 50 year-old Bobby Hughes of Memphis, who had recently been jailed on assault and gun charges, and was released on bond just 10 days before his body was found.

Washington said specific details were purposely kept close to the vest.

"When you put a lot of info out, feelers out, and are just not getting anything, you want to put a little bit more out," he said.

Investigators hope someone recognizes the trunk, or importantly the woman who may know how someone ended up inside of it.

"We're trying to see perhaps if someone in the public knows her or perhaps if she has a connection with this case," Washington said. "Maybe she'll come forward."

If you have any information about the murder of Bobby Hughes, or the woman in the photo, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
