(WMC-TV) - Joel Cox starts most days with a long run, which is not only good for his body, but his mind, as well. That's how he came up with a lot of the ideas for a children's book he wrote called, "The Peanut Butter Bee."

It took him about 9 weeks to write, illustrate and lay it all out. He was able to work on it in his Christian Brother's High School art class as a project for a quarter grade.

According to Cox, "I kind of put together illustrations through water color, colored pencils, that kind of thing. And, then I would manipulate the photos on Photoshop and then put the text over it."

And it turned into pure honey, earning the rising senior top prize in the B'nai B'rith International Diverse Minds Youth Writing Challenge, a $5,000 scholarship, and his book professionally published.

The main character in "The Peanut Butter Bee" is Paulie, a bee, of course! But, this bee doesn't enjoy making honey, so instead, decides to make Peanut Butter!

Cox says, "The central message is to be yourself, no matter how different that is, even if people don't accept that, at first. Keep being who you are and be open to try new things and be accepting of others that are different."

The Senior Class President and one-time author doesn't foresee writing more books, but hopes his book's message to kids about their own personal uniqueness resounds.

"The Peanut Butter Bee" will be distributed to libraries and elementary schools in and around Shelby County. And Joel Cox thanks Christian Brothers for giving him the tools he needed to put together not only an award winning book, but one of which he can be proud.
