Simulator trains troops on Humvee crashes

BEAUREGARD, LA (KALB/NBC) - The National Guard's 1022nd Engineer Company is training its troops how to handle a Humvee crashes in Afghanistan by using a life-sized crash simulator.

The simulator tosses the soldiers just like an actual rollover crash would.

Pfc. Joshua Dixon just geared up to ride the machine for the first time.

"I'm sure if it happens in country, it might be a little bit different, and nerves would be more jumpy, but here in training they always tell us to maintain a certain level of calmness," Dixon said before getting in.

The 1022nd Engineer Company will be deployed to Afghanistan at the end of September.

"This training is definitely going to either save my life or save someone else's life," Dixon added.
