PULLMAN, WA (WSU/CNN) - A turtle amputee is getting around just fine now thanks to some new wheels.
The 12-year-old African spur-thighed tortoise had a life-threatening leg injury and vets at Washington State University had to amputate.
After surgery, they gave him a prosthetic of sorts, attached a swiveling wheel to his shell, much like the wheel on an office chair, to take the place of the missing limb.
Vets say he's adjusting well and thriving.
His name is Gamera, named after the flying turtle monster in Japanese movies from the 1960s.
