FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (WSVN/CNN) – A man is accused of killing his mother and dumping her body in a marsh in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Gery Bellmonte-Lopes, 21, is being held without bond, charged with the first-degree murder of Natalie Bellmonte. Police say Bellmonte-Lopes sat on the front lawn as investigators collected information in the murder of his mother, while cadaver dogs smelled for remnants in the trunk of Bellmonte's Lexus and front door.
Police say a neighbor caught Bellmonte-Lopes disposing his mom's body and using her own car.
"The neighbor claims you came over to the neighbor's house several times asking about a security camera, asking whether or not the security camera had picked up any evidence of what had happened to your mother," Hurley said. "The neighbor claimed you came over four times; the neighbor said they were very suspicious of you."
Police say Bellmonte-Lopes dumped the 43-year-old woman's body in a marshy area near their home. Bellmonte had blunt force trauma to her head. Bloody sheets, pillows, towels and Bellmonte-Lopes' clothes were found in a nearby dumpster.
"Natalie gave him so many opportunities," said neighbor Al Quintana. "You know, she adopted him from Guyana, he was in trouble a couple of times, and she always gave him the benefit of the doubt."
Since the arrest of Bellmonte-Lopes, his siblings are now forced to cope with losing their mother and their adopted brother.
"We want to keep that memory in our minds, and we want to remember the beautiful, smiling face she always had," said Teresa Rodriguez.
