Still no luck in search for missing Arlington man

(WMC-TV) - The search for a missing continued Friday without success.

After spending hours in the blistering summer sun, the Tunica County Sheriff's Department had to call off a second day of searching for George Nicholson due to dangerous weather conditions.

Search and rescue crews, along with K-9 officers, have been scouring a wooded area in the Tunica cutoff after a groundskeeper discovered the 82-year-old's abandoned truck Wednesday evening.

"I noticed that the truck was stuck," said George Bonee. "It looked like he'd pulled down there and seen the water and decided to pull back out, and in the process of backing up he got stuck in that mud."

Friday's search produced no physical evidence, but information surfaced that offers insight into whether Nicholson was a victim of foul play.

One witness said he saw Nicholson alive and stranded in the woods. The man told investigators he saw Nicholson some time around the day he disappeared.  At that time, the man said, Nicholson and his truck were lost in the woods.

The man led Nicholson out to a levy, and let him go on his way.

Friday, George Nicholson's son, Nick, said the Mississippi Crime Lab has finished combing over his father's vehicle.

"The truck come back clean, as a matter of fact I can take it back home today they told me," he said

It was another important piece of the puzzle. Nicholson has been missing for three weeks. He disappeared after telling family members he was going to a Tunica casino.

"I'm just hoping we can find his billfold and stuff like that," Nick Nicholson said. "That way, if the money's in it, we pretty much know that nothing happened."

The search for George Nicholson will resume early Saturday. morning. Investigators said K-9 units will be dispatched at around 5:00 a.m., with search crews following 90 minute later. Because it is the weekend, organizers expect more volunteers to show up.
