Search continues for missing Arlington man

(WMC-TV) - Saturday marked 24 days since an Arlington man disappeared while on his way to the Tunica casinos.

George Nicholson's abandoned truck was found Wednesday in the Tunica Cutoff.

The scorching temperatures did not stop dozens of volunteers from searching for Nicholson Saturday.

Detective Louise Linzy with the Tunica County Sheriff's Department said Saturday's heat was bearable compared to Friday, when the search had to be called off.

"What we've been telling individuals who are part of this search team is to make certain they are hydrated," said Linzy.

On four wheelers and on foot, volunteers worked side by side with the Tunica County Sheriff's Department and other agencies, combing an area thousands of acres wide.

"The search area is a wooded area," said Linzy.  "We have wildlife out there."

Nick Nicholson, George Nicholson's oldest son, has been out with the crews ever since his father's truck was found Wednesday.

After the truck was processed by the Mississippi crime lab and returned, Nick Nicholson was driving the truck Saturday.

"Everybody wants to find him alive," said Nick Nicholson.  "It'll be going on four weeks next Wednesday, that's a long time for somebody to be missing who's that age."

Saturday was George Nicholson's 83rd birthday.

"If they're going to keep trying, we're going to keep trying," said Nick Nicholson.  "And we'll probably keep trying after they quit."

If George Nicholson is not found by Saturday evening, search and rescue crews will return to the area Monday to continue their search.
