Death of man in eastern Ark. may be heat related

FORREST CITY, Ark. (AP) - The death of a St. Francis County man who was found lying in a roadway may be related to the heat.

The Forrest City Herald reports that 30-year-old Harold Shannon died on Wednesday.

Sheriff's deputies say Shannon and others were chopping weeds in a field when he said he couldn't handle the heat and had lost consciousness earlier. Workers say he went to a pickup truck to rest then they saw him walking along a county road.

A semi driver later approached the other workers and told them Shannon was lying in the roadway. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Arkansas Department of Health spokesman Ed Barham said Thursday he hadn't received a death certificate on Shannon's death so he couldn't confirm if it was heat-related.
