(WMC-TV) - A detective with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office faces several charges, including Aggravated Sexual Battery, officials said Friday.

Shelby County Sheriff's Investigator James Bishof is accused in a case where female defendant showed up at his office to inquire about her case.

"He advised her that, in the past, he'd helped some suspects and victims with their cases," Sheriff Bill Oldham said.

Investigators said Bishof showed the woman a picture of another naked female defendant on his computer. Then, he took her to a private, locked bathroom on the 9th floor at 201 Poplar, and took inappropriate pictures of her exposed private parts.

Later that evening, according to investigators, Bishof showed up at the woman's house with his "best" camera - the one he uses at crime scenes. There, he allegedly took more inappropriate photos.

Investigators found some of the photos still on the camera, and a forensic investigator retrieved the rest from the camera's memory card after they had been erased.

According to an affidavit of complaint, Bishof touched her the woman, asked her, "Does this hurt?" and made sexual comments about things he wanted to do to her.

Friday, no one answered the door at Bishof's Millington home.  But according to his boss, Steve Crouch, protocol does not permit men taking photos of women.

"What he should have done is come to his supervisor, and tell him he needed assistance from a female officer in examining this victim/defendant," Crouch said.

Oldham said the incident was embarrassing for his department, and totally intolerable.

"We will move very rapidly and quickly to address this type of behavior," he said.

Bishof has been relieved of duty pending an investigation.
