Toyota donates to Mississippi recovery fund

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Toyota Motor Corp. has donated $165,000 to the Mississippi Disaster Recovery Fund Inc., which helps communities recovering from the April 15 and April 27 storms and the Mississippi River flooding.

Gov. Haley Barbour says the donation was part of a total $330,000 contribution from both Japanese employees and Toyota Motor Corp. to Mississippi and Alabama to aid in rebuilding from spring storms that devastated areas of both states. Toyota will open a manufacturing facility in Blue Springs later this year that will employ about 2,000 people.

Just weeks before the April storms, Toyota and its North American employees, including those in Blue Springs, donated more than $1 million to relief efforts for the devastating March 11 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.

Barbour says the disaster fund has raised more than $250,000.
