TAMPA, FL (WTSP/CNN) - Starting in September, people will be able to fly directly to Cuba from Tampa, FL, officials announced Wednesday.
"It took many people and many years working together to secure Tampa International Airport as the new gateway airport to Cuba," Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said.
It's been nearly 50 years since Tampa International Airport offered commercial flights to Havana because of the U.S. trade embargo.
Earlier this year, the U.S. changed some rules to allow charter flights to and from Cuba.
But it still isn't legal for most Americans to travel to Cuba, so check with the State Department before making any plans.
