MODESTO, CA (KXTV/CNN) – A Modesto, CA, mom has been arrested for allowing her kids to ride in the back of a U-haul truck, unrestrained.
Jennifer Nolan's three children were found in the upper storage compartment of the truck after a traffic stop.
"She was forthcoming with that information right off the bat, it took some time, about 15 minutes, for her to provide that information, and it was during a search of that vehicle that the discovery was made," said Officer Brian Findlen.
Police are familiar with Nolan for reasons they will not disclose. They knew her license was suspended and she should not have been driving.
Nolan told police there was no more room in the truck's cab because she, another adult and a child were up front.
"Aside from common sense, state law requires people, more specifically kids, to be properly restrained within the vehicle, and that's usually the passenger compartment," Findlen said. "Not in the rear of a truck."
Nolan's children were taken by Child Protective Services. Nolan was taken to jail, accused not only of poor judgment, but something more serious.
"The officers continued their investigation after discovering that the kids were in the back, found other forms of abuse, which led to the charges of child neglect," Findlen said.
