Jackson, Madison County move to buy Lambuth campus

(AP) - The Jackson City County is expected to approve a resolution to spend $3 million toward buying the campus of now-closed Lambuth University.

The council meets Tuesday to consider the issue and the Madison County Commission meets in special session on Thursday to vote on a $2 million stake in the purchase of Lambuth, which ceased to operate in June.

The university trustees have agreed to sell the campus in Jackson for $7.9 million, according to The Jackson Sun (http://bit.ly/qrkMnR).

West Tennessee Healthcare and the Jackson Energy Authority have each approved $2 million contributions.

The property would belong to the state and the University of Memphis is expected to open a regional campus there in time for the fall semester.
