Family left stunned after father shoots son in parking lot

(WMC-TV) - A family was left reeling Saturday night after a father shot his son in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut on Knight Arnold in Memphis.

Moments after Andrew Woodley, Senior shot his youngest son, Andrew Junior, Saturday night, he disappeared.  His body was found two days later on the roof of a Memphis house.

Wednesday, describing the elder Andrew Woodley as a work-a-holic and a good provider, Andrew Junior and his mother, Linda, spoke for the first time about the shooting.

"I just heard my ears ringing," Andrew Junior said. "I just saw him get out the car and run off the other direction. I looked down and saw blood on me."

After the shooting, Andrew Jr. spent a total of 4 1/2 hours at The MED. By Wednesday, a bandage on his left arm was the only sign of injury, and he was feeling no physical pain.

"I really don't think my husband was trying to do it, because we didn't know my husband owned a gun," Linda Woodley said. "We honestly didn't."

After the shooting, Andrew Senior ran away. His body was discovered Monday night on the roof of a stranger's house over a mile from his own home. There were no signs of foul play. While an autopsy will determine the exact cause of death, his family believes either heart failure or the heat killed him.

"When they said they found him he was in the praying position, just praying all the time," Linda Woodley said. "He wasn't a monster. He was just fighting something that was in him. And he just lost the battle."

Mother and son harbor no ill will toward a husband and father they say just snapped.

"It wasn't him that did this to me. It wasn't him at all," Andrew Junior said. "He was a great father to me. I know that he wouldn't anything to harm me on purpose or anything like that."

Andrew Junior plans to enroll at Liberty University in the Spring on academic scholarship.
