Officer's death unrelated to heat

(WMC-TV) - Doctors say that a Memphis police officer's sudden death this week wasn't related to the extreme heat that's been scorching the Mid-South recently.

Anthony Rahming joined the force last year.

"Sometime during the night, his condition worsened while being transported to the hospital where he passed," said Memphis Police Director Toney Armstrong Thursday.

Rahming was working a deadly crash scene around 7 p.m. Wednesday night at I-240 northbound near South Parkway. The officer said he did not feel well and went home.

"We want to express our sorrow to the family of the officer," said Memphis Mayor A C Wharton.

Initially it was believed that heat had contributed to the 48-year-old officer's death. However, the Memphis/Shelby County Health Department ruled that out as of Friday. However, officials wouldn't comment on what may have caused Rahming's death.
