(WMC-TV) - A Jackson woman has been charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect after abandoning her child in a stairwell.
Police said the incident happened Saturday night at an apartment complex in the 800 block of North Highland Avenue in Jackson.
There, a woman told police that she and her daughter, 23-year-old Barbara Labossiere, got into an argument after the woman accused Labossiere of stealing money.
After the argument, the woman kicked Labossiere out of her home. A short time later the woman heard a baby crying. Opening her apartment door, she found Labossiere's four-month-old child lying in a car seat in a stairwell. Labossiere was nowhere to be found.
Officials said the stairwell was not air conditioned, and the temperature inside was in the high 80's when officers arrived.
The child was not injured, and was left in the care of its grandmother.
The Tennessee Department of Children's Services is helping in the investigation.
Labossiere was arrested Sunday, and was formally charged Tuesday with aggravated child abuse and neglect. She remains in the Madison County Jail on $5,000 bond.
