(WMC-TV) - There could finally be movement in the struggle to bring a Bass Pro Shops store to the Pyramid Arena in Memphis.

Bass Pro's interest in the empty arena was first announced in 2005, but six years later, not much has changed. But now, sources tell Action News 5 that a groundbreaking is scheduled for October, when construction will begin at the store.

Next week, Memphis City Council members plan to discuss how they will generate $30 million dollars to prepare the site for its new owners. Council members hope a portion of Bass Pro's state sales tax paid to Tennessee's tourist development zone program will cover the cost of building improvements.

At Tuesday's council meeting, Robert Lipscomb, the Director of Housing and Community Development for the city, is supposed to make a formal presentation on the Bass Pro plan.

Sources say Bass Pro has assured city leaders they will generate so much money in sales, tourist tax money will cover the cost of building improvements. But some city leaders still want more proof that once the Bass Pro location at the Pyramid is up and running, shoppers will be running to Memphis to make a purchase.

Memphis' Pyramid Arena is the sixth-largest pyramid in the world. It opened in 1991, but has not been regularly used as a sports venue since 2004. The last major event to be held at the area, a rock concert, was in 2007.
