(WMC-TV) - Former Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons is giving yet another Memphian a job at the state level.

Gibbons, who is now Tennessee's Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner, announced Monday that MPD Colonel Lori Bullard will take on a newly created position in Nashville: Assistant Commissioner of Driver Services.

At an annoucement in Memphis, Gibbons said Bullard will be responsible for finding ways to reduce the wait time at Driver's Services Centers.

Gibbons made the announcement alongside former Memphis Police Director Larry Godwin, who is now Gibbon's Deputy Commissioner.

"We had a colonel who headed highway patrol, and an Assistant Commissioner who headed Homeland Security, but we did not have anyone to head up our Driver Services Division, and I felt like that was a missing link," Gibbons said.

Gibbons said Bullard's goals will be to reduce wait time, reduce lines and allow people to do more things online.

Soon, Tennessee will be introducing three pilot kiosks in each section of the state. The kiosks will take a person's photo and process all of that person's information to receives a driver's license or ID card.

Bullard is a 25-year veteran of the Memphis Police Department. Most recently, she served as commander of the Union Precinct in Midtown.
