(WMC-TV) - A Lauderdale County resident was left fearful after three men recently busted in the door of her home and threatened her family.

"They kicked in my door, hit my brother in law in the jaw, broke out two teeth and busted up my door," Tabitha Stewart said.

The attack left Stewart afraid.

I'm very frustrated," she said. "If you can't be in your home and feel protected or feel protected by the law, then what can you do?"

Stewart says the threats started after she and her family drove to Haywood County to buy a car. When they left with the car, they didn't have enough money for the full balance, but they planned to drive home to get the rest of the money.

According to Stewart, that was when the car salesman threatened her.

"And he said he'd be back here in four hours in our home and kill everybody here," she said.

The police report says the three suspects kicked in Stewart's front door, coming after her and her family with a claw hammer.

Stewart and her family took off.  The men then went to the house where Stewart's mother-in-law lives, and shot up the front of the dwelling.

Stewart said she gave police the names and addresses of the suspects, but no arrests have been made.

"What's disturbing about it to me is that it appears to have started in Haywood County and escalated into Lauderdale County," District Attorney Mike Dunavant said.

Even though her brother-in-law was injured in the scuffle, Stewart believes things could been much worse.

"When they hit my brother in law, it was actually beside my baby's crib," she said.
