One dead after small plane crash in NE Mississippi

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say the pilot was killed when a small plane crashed Wednesday morning in a residential area of Tupelo.

The person's name was not immediately released.

The Federal Aviation Administration website says the Cessna 310 is registered to Hamilton Air LLC in Hamilton, Ala.

Authorities say the plane crashed about 8 a.m., shortly after taking off from the Tupelo airport. It landed in a front yard of a home near the Tupelo Furniture Market.

Eric Williams, who lives in the home, tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/ql5duV ) that he heard a loud boom and he thought someone had kicked in his door.

The plane did not catch fire but was heavily damaged. WTVA-TV reports (http://bit.ly/rk6aEv ) only one person was on board.
