Ex-inmate caught sneaking into prison

SACRAMENTO, CA (KCRA/NBC) - Thermal imaging cameras are being credited for spotting a parolee sneaking back onto the grounds of California's New Folsom Prison.

"We quickly determined we did not have an escape. We found the suspect lying face down in tall thicket near the Prison Industry Authority area," prison spokesperson Sgt. Tony Quinn said.

Marvin Lane Ussery, 48, is now under arrest on suspicion of being a felon on prison grounds.

Ussery was on parole for a single charge of robbery, prison officials confirmed.

It is believed he is the man who was seen on thermal imaging cameras hopping the prison fence.

"The only statement he made to investigators is that he wanted to reminisce. It must have been a great time for him," Quinn said.

A bicycle reportedly belonging Ussery was seen outside the fence and taken by officers, a law enforcement source said.

As many as 30 prison staff members were searching the prison grounds looking for any other evidence possibly left behind by the suspect.

"We don't have any evidence of this in this case, but we have had incidents where former prisoners have snuck back onto the property to hide backpacks filled with drugs, alcohol or phones. Minimum security prisoners then find those backpacks and try to smuggle the contraband into the prison," Quinn said.
