Eye doctor told to remove American flag

(WMC-TV) - An American flag is at the center of a fight between an eye doctor and the property management at TESCO Development.

Optometrist, Dr. Dawn Kamin, did not have her American flag on proud display Thursday morning at Affordable Eye Care of Germantown because of the rain,  and TESCO President Jerry Sisson wants to make that permanent.

"Placing additional flags in common areas in order to bring greater attention to a particular business is inappropriate" said Sisson in an email to Action News 5.

Pat Register agreed and said business owners should comply with the rules.

"You do have to conform to some extent to what's going on in that little area there" said Register.

Yet a majority said Kamin is being punished for patriotism.

"As an American she should be able to fly whatever flag that she wants to" said Steven Utley.

Employees at Affordable Eyecare said Kamin has several family members in the military and does not seek to bring more business with her flag, she simply wants more support for her country.

TESCO said Kamin is allowed to put a flag on her business, but not an entire flag pole in a common area of the property.

Still, people like Chris Clement, a veteran of Desert Storm, said flying an American flag anywhere is a freedom.

"She should be able to fly it. As long as she's flying it properly, let her," he added.
