Police: Father of bully pulled gun on teen

(WMC-TV) - Police said the father of a bully pointed a gun at a teen and pulled the trigger after the teen stood up to his son.

"I was scared, I thought I was going to die," said 16-year-old Adarius Green.

Green had a gun pointed to his head and the trigger pulled, but he is alive to tell about it.

"He said, 'man, I'll kill you,'" said Green.  "He clicked it, but it didn't go off.  That's a blessing.  It jammed.  I was like, phew, I could have died."

Police said the incident started in a neighborhood near East Shelby Drive and Getwell.  Green got into a fight with Terrence Whaley's 15-year-old son over him bullying Green's 12-year-old brother.

"My brother, he's not like us," said Green.  "He's kind of quiet, makes good grades and stuff like that.  He's like, 'this dude keeps pushing on me.'  He's like, 'every day he's hitting on me.'  So I was like, OK, we're going to go see what's going on."

Green said the bullying had been going on for weeks.

"I walked up to him, said, 'did you bully my brother?'  He was like, 'yeah, I bullied your brother.  You ain't going to do nothing about it,'" said Green.  "I was like, 'I'm trying to squash the whole situation.'  He was like, 'you want to fight?'  I said, 'come on.'  He hit me and I hit him."

Green said his two brothers and cousin walked back to their house.  About 15 minutes later, he said Whaley drove over.

"He jumped out of the car and said, 'lay down,'" said Green.  "Walked up to me, choked me, 'I'll kill you.'"

Adarion Mobley, Green's 18-year-old brother, said his heart dropped at the sight.

"For a grown person that's way older than us to point a gun at a bunch of teenagers, that's really unnecessary," said Mobley.

Police arrested 38-year-old Whaley and charged him with four counts of aggravated assault.

Police said they recovered a weapon which did not discharge when Whaley pulled the trigger.  They said Whaley gave a typewritten statement of admission.

Whaley is locked up with a $400,000 bond.  He is set to be arraigned Monday morning.
