CHICAGO (WBBM/CNN) – A team of medical volunteers helped those in need by offering them free medical exams.
Many people in Chicago started lining up 12 hours before the clinic opened to receive free medical, vision and dental exams for the unemployed and underinsured.
Erika Walker had not seen a dentist in 15 years; without health insurance, she could not afford to.
"I need the service," she said. "I desperately need the service."
It turned out Walker needed a good cleaning, but discovered she had cataracts while taking her vision test.
By midday, Dr. Louise Sclafani diagnosed glaucoma, cataracts and retinal problems. He also prescribed 15 pairs of glasses.
The free clinic runs through Sunday at Malcolm X College.
