UDPATE: Alzheimer's patient still missing in Panola County

(WMC-TV) - A massive search for a missing man continued Wednesday in Panola County, Mississippi.

Davy Russell says the search for his missing father, 57-year-old Ricky Russell, has been overwhelming.

"We've gone everywhere we know to go, and he could have been picked up by somebody," Davy Russell said. "He might get a ride from somebody, so we're out of guesses as far as guessing what he would do."

Wednesday, authorities brought in dogs and search crews arrived on four wheelers as they spent the day looking for Russell along Murphy Ridge Road - where Russell's wife last saw him Tuesday morning walking near their home.

Ricky Russell, who has Alzheimer's Disease, was last seen wearing faded brown shorts, a t-shirt, and no shoes.

"A lot of people are just riding the roads, hopeful Ricky Russell will come out," said his cousin, Wesley Shultice. "At this point he's probably hungry or thirsty or whatever."

Panola County Sheriff Otis Griffin said Wednesday's heat, combined with a rugged terrain, created quite a challenge for searchers.

"It's hard for a person to get off in that type of stuff and survive," he said.

However, Davy Russell said he and his family would continue to hold on to hope that his father will be brought home soon.

"We're holding it together until we find him, then we'll deal with it after that," he said.

If you see Ricky Russell or know where he is you're asked to call the Panola County Sheriff's Office at 662-563-6230.
