3 found dead Poinsett Co.; 2 were in burning home

(WMC-TV) - Authorities have identified three people who were found shot to death near Harrisburg, including two who were discovered inside a burning home.

Poinsett County Sheriff Larry Mills said deputies found two bodies inside the burning residence at 9 p.m. Tuesday. They were later identified as The Reverent Greg Leatherwood and his wife, Patricia.

"The deputies forced entry through a glass door. When they got inside the home they discovered two bodies with apparent gunshot wounds," Mills said.

While trying to notify their next of kin, deputies found a third body at a Harrisburg apartment. Officials identified that victim as the couple's son, Kyle Leatherwood.

Kyle Leatherwood worked at the family's glass business with his parents.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said the bodies were taken to the Arkansas Crime Laboratory to determine the manner and cause of death.

Sadler said no suspect information had been developed and he wouldn't address a question on whether the deaths involved a murder-suicide.

People who knew the family said they were wonderful people.

"Mrs. Leatherwood had survived cancer a few years ago, and we were surprised," said family friend Randall Dillinger.  "We thought she was going to die and she lived through it and they became a religious family."

Friends said that was when Greg Leatherwood started preaching.

Sadler said investigators are awaiting autopsy results.
