Police ask for help in finding suspects who broke into DMV

(WMC-TV) - Investigators need help finding two suspects who broke into the DMV on Shelby Drive last month.

At 1:30 a.m. on July 22, two masked men dressed in all black broke into the state's new DMV on Shelby Drive.  They stole a relatively small amount of cash.

"The safe was targeted and cash was taken from the business," said Curtis Phillips with the Memphis Police Department.

The state said the building was designed to reduce the hassle and remove the stigma typically associated with the DMV.

"The disruption of the services that Friday, like I said, was far greater than the money that was taken," said Dan Moore with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

State and local police said Crime Stoppers might jump start the case.

"Somebody out there knows everything, and therefore, somebody knows exactly who committed this crime," said Buddy Chapman with Crime Stoppers.

"I know gas is $3.40 a gallon, food's high," said Moore.  "This is a good way to receive some extra cash for a tip and do some good for society."

Police said the burglary may be related to an unsolved March 2010 burglary at the Walnut Grove DMV.

If you can help solve the case, police ask that you call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
