(WMC-TV) - Tipton County criminals, beware. It's now a lot easier for residents to track your every move with a simple click of the mouse.

Tipton County's new crime mapping web site tracks not only crimes in your neighborhood, but also sex offenders living within steps of your front door.

"Ninety percent of everything we do is geographically related, so when we first started the mapping web site, it was a bridge between the sheriff's department and citizens of Tipton County," said Tipton County GIS director Shawn Anderson.

Tipton County's new crime mapping web site is grant funded. Icons on the computer screen show specific crimes and the location they happened.

"We've been able to identify particular areas, not only for crime but for traffic incidents, and can map intersections that are bad for accidents, and put directed patrols there to solve fatalities and crashes," said Chief Billy Daugherty with the Tipton County Sheriff's Department.

Officials say criminals are more mobile than ever, and this new crime tracking web site helps stay a step ahead of the bad guys.
