(WMC-TV) - Two men have been charged in with the drive by shooting death of 7-year-old Miranda Thomas.

According to police, the young girl was killed over the weekend when Brian Waller, 21 and Michael Love, 24, shot into her bedroom after two women who lived in the apartment refused their advances.

Monday, police charged Waller and Love with reckless homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and 15 counts of reckless endangerment.

Tuesday, the young victim's grandmother, Peggy Thomas, said she left an unforgettable legacy.

"She was the sweetest, the most loving and caring grandbaby ever," Thomas said.

In fact, the victim was helping another family member when she died.

"Her cousin had a ring stuck on her finger and couldn't get it off," Peggy Thomas said. "So she went to the closet to get lotion to lubricate it, to get this ring off her cousin's finger. When she turned to go in the closet, the bullet hit her in the face."

Waller is the accused triggerman, while Love was behind the wheel. Investigators said both men have criminal records, though nothing as violent as this shooting.

"Just a split second,  if she wouldn't have went to that closet to get that lotion to help her cousin..." Peggy Thomas speculated.

While the young victim's family struggled with 'what ifs,' friends and neighbors planned a memorial service - anything to help a grieving family.

"Miranda is gone, and when it's all said and done, she's not ever coming back," Peggy Thomas said.
