OVERLAND PARK, KS (KMBC/CNN) – A man endured an attack from a hawk while on his early morning jog through his neighborhood.
"So it's 5 a.m. and I'd just crossed the street over here," said Brian Foster.
In Overland Park, KS, yards from Foster's apartment, a red-tailed hawk flew down and attacked him, clawing into his back and head.
"So I immediately, I flew my arms up and I screamed, and I see this giant bird flying back into the tree line," Foster said. "I could start to feel warmth in the back of my neck, I put my hand back there and my hand was full of blood."
Just recently reported, families in his neighborhood received an email about hawks swooping down on people and pets.
While experts say they do not often hear of birds like this attacking people, they are common in the area. In fact, the red-tailed hawk is the most common hawk in the area.
