Fair booth serves up maggots

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (KRDO/CNN) - When thinking of food at a state fair, many think" corn dogs" and "cotton candy." But how about bugs?

One by one customers stepped up to the Jungle George booth, but what they ordered wasn't typical fair treats.

On the menu: Scorpions alligator and something more, well, unique.

"One maggot melt sandwich," customer Nathan Fadely said. "It tastes kind of like a grilled cheese sandwich, just a little crunchier."

Many customers prefer the maggot's plain.

"Tastes like sunflower seeds," customer Brian Hicks said.

Owner George Sandefur has tried everything on his menu, including the popular maggot melt sandwich.

"Another state fair called me and said, 'Hey what can you do wacky this year?' And I said I don't know, then they said, 'What about a strange meat,'" Sandefur said. ""I have not heard one bad complaint yet."
