Two shot to death inside car; victim's mother speaks out

(WMC-TV) - Lauderdale County sheriff's deputies and the TBI are investigating a double homicide Sunday night just outside Henning, Tennessee.

Investigators said there have been no arrests in this double murder.  Monday, the mother of one of those shooting victims is speaking wanting to know what happened.

"Right now, I'm crazy," said Josephine Haley.  "It seems like a dream, not real."

Haley said she cannot believe what's happened to her family.  Her son Eric Washington was found shot to death inside a car along Tate Road just outside Henning late Sunday afternoon.

"He was robbed, shot in the head," she added.

Haley said her son and his cousin Jonathan Jones were both found dead in the front seat around 5:30 p.m.

"Both of them, back to back, I assume someone was in the back seat or they met somebody because they went bam, bam, shot them right behind the head," said Haley.

Henning police still had the scene blocked Monday morning.  Crime scene tape surrounded both ends of Tate near a rural cemetery.

"They know who did it, it was somebody they knew, and I beg anybody to call if they know anything," said Haley.

TBI agents were on scene in Henning all day Monday collecting evidence from the double homicide.  The evidence will be sent to the TBI crime lab in Memphis for further study in hopes the case will soon be solved.

Family members said they do not understand who would do something like this.

"I don't see no reason for them killing Eric they way they did, or Jonathan, not only Eric, 'cause we all family," said Brenda Washington.
