Woman grateful to be safe after being grazed by bullet

(WMC-TV) - A 77-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet that came through her living room window and went through her toaster Monday.

A bullet flew through the front window of a house where 77-year-old Hattie Cunningham and her two sisters were sitting.

"She said, 'somebody shooting, somebody shooting,'" said her sister Helen Ross.  "She said, 'Hattie is on the floor.'"

Ross was at the refrigerator when the bullet came flying through and hit a toaster in the kitchen.

"Any other time I would be standing here warming her up something," said Ross.

Police believe the shooter was in a nearby driveway shooting at someone.  One of the bullets went across the street into the house.

Police marked where bullet casings fell as they gathered evidence.

The third sister, Annie Kirkwood, saw the shooting from the living room.

"I heard something like it was the next street over, then this car came through," said Kirkwood.  "It made a U-turn right there, then boom."

Kirkwood said the shooter was in a black car and was leaning out of the window.

None of the sisters, including Cunningham, were hurt.
