Large fire at Wynne industrial plant - WMC Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee

No injuries reported after fire at industrial plant

(WMC-TV) – Emergency crews responded to a fire Tuesday evening at the Mueller Copper facility in Wynne, Arkansas.

Fire crews from as far away as Marion responded to the blaze as its billowing smoke filled the sky.

"My daughter works at McDonalds across the street, and called and told me the building was on fire," Avon Frost said.

Officials said the fire started in an area of the plant where plastic fittings and other items are made, and that a tar roof helped fuel it.

"The fire chief didn't have time to tell me exactly how it started," Wynne Bob Stacy said. "By the time they got here it had taken care of the building."

Employees who were not on the clock at the time wondered when they might be back to work.

"It's emotional," Delinda Holden said. "There's gonna be a lot of people out of work."

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Stacy said company officials plan to rebuild and hopefully rehire anyone who might be laid off in the interim.

Mueller Industries is a company that manufactures copper plumbing, tubing and fittings.  It is one of the largest employers in Cross County, with nearly 400 workers.
