Police: Man pulled gun on couple blocking his driveway

(WMC-TV) - Police said a blocked driveway led to a former Memphis Tiger pointing a gun at parents in the pick-up line of an elementary school.

Like many schools, the line of parents in the pick-up line outside White Station Elementary School is often very long.

Police said former Memphis Tigers running back Jeremy Scruggs, 34, pointed a pistol at a couple waiting in a long pick-up line who were blocking his driveway on North Mendenhall.

"Since the school's been here, there have been times when somebody does block the drive, but it's not big problem," said neighbor Ray Ransom.

Resident Wanda Martin said it is just something she has learned to deal with.

"I would ask them nicely to move and I think they would," said Martin.

According to an affidavit, Scruggs became irate and "kept pointing the gun at the couple while saying, 'make me boy, make me boy' several times."

Police said Scruggs followed on foot when the couple finally drove away and stood outside the school while the woman walked out with her kids.

School staff told police they saw Scruggs with what appeared to be a gun in his pocket, but he left by the time officers arrived.

Scruggs' wife said the situation was blown out of proportion.  She said it would not have attracted attention if he was not a former Tiger.

Scruggs was released on bond Thursday.
