Store clerk dies after shooting

(WMC-TV) - A clerk at a Memphis market died after a shooting late Tuesday morning.

Police said the shooting happened at the Bargain Market, located in the 1500 block of South Parkway East, near Willett.

Another clerk at the store, Marcus Parker, was stunned by the killing.

"All I know is my boss is dead in there," he said. "That's all I know."

Just before Noon Tuesday, Parker said his boss asked him to pick up some items for the store.

That's when police say two gunmen, masking their faces with T-shirts, robbed the store, shot the manager and fled by foot or car.

"I left to go do an errand for the store, and when I came back this was going on," Parker said.

An ambulance took the store manager to The MED, where he later died. Another clerk, Farij Mabrouk, said his boss had only been working at the store four months, and this wasn't an isolated incident.

"Robbery happened in the same spot right here in the store," Mabrouk said.

According to police records, another robbery happened at Bargain Market last month.  The clerks said that robbery also involved two male suspects.

Mabrouk said in all the years he's worked here, he's never seen two crimes in two weeks. Parker, meanwhile, said his boss would have given the robbers what they wanted - if they had just asked.

"If you're hungry, he'll feed you," Parker said.

Police are looking for two suspects.  The first is a black male wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.  The second, also a black male, was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

The victim's name has not been released.
