(WMC-TV) - A Memphis Police Officer was arrested Monday night after a fight with her ex-husband.

According to an affidavit of complaint, Officer Anita Bennett struck her ex-husband on the back of his head during an argument Monday night.

The affidavit says the incident happened as Bennett's ex-husband was holding their 2-month-old granddaughter.  Allegedly, Bennett ran at him from 10 feet away and attempted to shove him.

Then, according to the affidavit, Bennett's daughter got between them in order to protect the 2-month-old. When the ex-husband tried to walk away and leave the garage, Bennett allegedly punched him in the back of his head, twice, with her fist."

No one was seriously hurt or hospitalized. Bennett was arrested and taken to Jail East, where she posted bond and was later released.

Bennett, who works at the Memphis Police Department's training academy, was customarily relieved of duty on scene.

Tuesday, Memphis Police Department Director Toney Armstrong released a statement that said in part, "Domestic Violence continues to be a great concern of the Memphis Police Department. We take these cases seriously and will take the appropriate actions to educate and discipline our officers to make sure that inappropriate behavior is corrected."

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation into the alleged incident.

Bennett is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
