Fisherman hoping for biggest catch in catfish competition

(WMC-TV) - The cream of the crop in fisherman are trolling the Mississippi River Saturday in search of the biggest catch.

The Bass Pro Shop Big Cat Quest is on Mud Island this weekend.  The last time the tournament was in town was in 2007, when a 108-pound catfish was caught.

Anglers hope to produce a new world record by reeling in the largest catfish.  Organizers hope to see more events like this when Bass Pro moves into its new home in the Pyramid.

"There are a lot of groups, a lot of things that are involved with Bass Pro Shop that come and generate tourism dollars and make a city impact," said organizer Ken Freeman.  "That's what we're doing here today."

The catfish competition continues Sunday.
