Memphis police officer attacked while responding to call

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis police officer was attacked early Tuesday morning while responding to a prowler call.

According to investigators, the officer was responding to a call around 3:00 a.m. at a house in the 3500 block of Dumas when he noticed a light on in a garage.

As the officer approached the garage, a man armed with a handgun ran out and attacked him. During the altercation, the officer fired his gun at the man, although it does not appear the man was hit. After the single shot was fired, the man ran from the scene. Police are still searching for him.

Officers inspected the garage and found four people hiding inside. Those men, ranging in age from 18 to 23, were taken into custody. Investigators said that, along with the garage, the suspects entered a home on Dumas, but police are not sure if they took anything.

Police have not yet filed charges in the incident.
