MINNEAPOLIS (KARE/CNN) - Investigators in southeast Minnesota said 150 pigs are gone without a trace. The stolen pigs have an estimated value of about $30,000.
The owner of the farm said he went to cull the market-ready pigs from his barns and found 150 animals missing.
"Not only is it difficult to steal that many animals because you're talking semi loads of animals, but you have to take them somewhere, they're not like stealing a vehicle or something like that. These animals either need to be taken care of, watered or they need to be processed," said Marc Chadderdon with the Minnesota Sheriff's Department.
Police are investigating a possible link between this pig heist and another at a Kandiyohi County hog facility in August. A suspected thief carted off nearly 600 pigs, which is more than $100,000.
