Pastor shot in Sunday service

LAKELAND, FL (BAY NEWS 9/CNN) – Investigators are trying to figure out why a man killed his wife and Sunday and then opened fire in a church, shooting two pastors.

It started a block away from the church in Lakeland, FL. Police say Jeremiah Fogle, 57, shot and killed his wife, 56-year-old Theresa Fogle.

Investigators say Fogle killed his wife, then walked into the Greater Faith Christian Church and shot Pastor William Boss and Associate Pastor Carl Stewart. Congregation members wrestled the gunman to the ground.

Long-time friends of Boss say he was well-respected and loved in the community and even started a Christian school in the community.

The families of the victims are now left to deal with a stunning blow to their faith.

"I know everything happens for a reason, God is too wise to make a mistake," Melissa Deary, a family member, said.

According to witnesses, Fogle was once a deacon at the church, but left after a disagreement. He and his wife were also married at the church in 2002.

The pastors are in the hospital in serious condition.
