(WMC-TV) - Hundreds of jobs are coming to Memphis. Tuesday, American Queen Steamboat Cruise CEO Jeff Krida addressed the Memphis City Council, laying out his company's plans.

According to Krida, American Steamboat has already hired some marketing employees and other office positions. They are also currently looking for hospitality industry candidates to apply - like waiters and hostesses.

When the Beale Street Landing riverfront development is complete, the employees will launch from the Memphis waterfront 11 months out of the year, serving tourists throughout the inlands of America.

The American Queen currently has 258 crew positions still open, and the company is committed to hiring 60 percent of its workers from West Tennessee.

"We'll start training cruises in March for all of our crew members," Krida said. "We'll have 258 crew members we're hiring. Most of them from here in Tennessee. There's already an employment section on our website for people to log in and indicate their interests, send their resumes and such. We are very much into recruiting locally."

The company has also set up partnerships with colleges to offer paid internships.

The first cruise takes off on April 21, 2012. The first tickets to ride the cruise will be sold Wednesday.
