Dyersburg schools allow home-schooled athletes

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) - The Dyersburg City School Board has approved rules for allowing home-schooled athletes to play on the city high school's teams.

School Superintendent Neel Durbin told board members this week that the issue is moot for this year and he expects there to be state legislation before the next academic year.

With little discussion, the board adopted rules that require home-schooled players to register through the city schools, according to the State Gazette.

Durbin said none are in the current school year. Under the adopted policy, such athletes must register with the schools at the start of the academic year and pay a $300 fee.
