(WMC-TV) - Liam Sims has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Recently, his middle school friends raised money for him and now he's choosing to spend that money on someone else.

Dyersburg Middle School's outdoor classroom is one of Liam Sims' favorite places. Sims has suffered from the life-threatening condition since birth but his friends say you'd never know it by looking at him.

This summer, Sims spent a week at The Center for Courageous Kids, a camp designed for children with life-threatening illness.

While Liam was at camp, some of his friends decided to do something special.

"We just know how hard it was for him. He is in a wheelchair.  I remember when he could walk," said Matthew Hampton, a friend of Sims.

Sims' friends decided to raise money for their special friend. When they approached Liam about their idea, he decided not to spend the money on himself. Rather, he wants to use the money to send other kids like him back to camp!

"It's important to have fun. We're not always gonna have fun.  So, we have to enjoy it while we still can," he said.

This summer, Sims got to do things he's never been able to do, like boating and arts and crafts. And now, he hopes the money his friends want to raise for him will now help someone else like him who's in need.

"I really do think everybody should get a chance to enjoy camp," he said. "It's a normal sort of thing."

Liam's friends are planning a fund-raising variety show at his church coming up October 22nd at the First Christian Church in Dyersburg.
