Memphis firefighter leaves union position

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis firefighter who made controversial comments on Facebook left his position as a division representative on the Memphis Fire Fighters Association's executive board Monday.

On his Facebook page, Robert Kramer said, "There is a rainbow that looks like it arcs right into the heart of Frayser on the way to work this morning. The only gold in Frayser is in people's mouth."

Memphis Fire Fighters Association President Larry Anthony said the comments were exposed for political purposes.

"There is at least one individual who is trying to use these comments for political gain and to tarnish the good reputation of our organization," said Anthony.

Anthony claimed Kemp Conrad exposed the Facebook comments after the union endorsed Conrad's opponent in the upcoming election.

Conrad said he found out about the story from the news media, just like everyone else.

Kramer's job as a firefighter remains under investigation.
