(WMC-TV) - A crook found himself in a strange situation early Wednesday morning when he ended up selling cigarettes to a customer during the middle of his crime.
The clerk told investigators she was in the stockroom of a Cordova BP station when a heavy set gunman approached and ordered her to stay in the storeroom.
Wearing a white ball cap backward on his head, a black bandana covering his face, and carrying a pistol in his hand, the first man held the clerk at bay in the stock room.
Face fully exposed, the second man raided the cigarette stash and cash register behind the counter.
As the robbery progressed, a customer wandered into the store and asked to purchase a pack of cigarettes. Surprisingly, the crook obliged and rang up the man's purchase.
"He saw what it cost, he took the money, he processed the transaction, and off the customer went," Sheriff's Office spokesperson Chip Washington said. "And he went back to doing the bad things that he was there to do in the first place."
Washington said the thieves got away with undisclosed amounts of money and cigarettes.
"Hopefully with the public's help we'll be able to identify them and place them where they need to be," he said.
No one was injured during the robbery.
